Francois-Joseph Nadermann (Paris, 1781 -1835)  was celebrated as one of the great harpists of his time. Since there had been very little music written for solo pedal harp, Nadermann composed this elegant collection of Seven Sonatines. . . The Sonatines are in the late 18th century Germanic style, reminiscent of the "Court" music popularized by Mozart (1756-1791) and Haydn (1732-1809)

Information for the connoisseurs:  The flute parts for the Sonatines were composed by Paul Hurst (b. 1954) in counterpoint to the harp, without changing any of Nadermann's original compositions. Some of the themes done by Hurst are wholly independent of Nadermann's material, while others borrow  their melodies from thematic fragments found in the original composition.

Through the use of chromaticism in the flute parts, some of the harmonic intent has been altered or "extended", resulting in colors not present in the original solo version.

The 2nd Movement of  Mozart's Concerto for Harp, Flute, and Orchestra appears here in a new  incarnation:  Paul Hurst  transcribed the version appearing here as a harp and flute duet.  The solo harp and orchestral parts written by Mozart have been combined and are played as a harp solo.

A  cadenza (embellishment) has been added in the middle of the Movement,  written in 1911 by Czech harpist, Hanus Trnecek.  De Wayne Fulton (founder of Safari Productions) discovered the manuscript for Trnecek Cadenza’s for the three Movements of Mozart’s concerto in the archives in Prague.
